Agent in Residence

I thought about using the two story building as a RR station. Paper buildings are easy to modify and move. Here it is at Middleburg serving as a different building in a different story. I hope you can notice the slightly sway back condition in the flat car. The weathered 36 foot box car has a hand done herald using a homemade card stencil for the oval and hand done YH inside using white carbon paper below the stylus.  (Custom decals were years in the future.)

This steam locomotive is spotting a couple cars at the two story freight station. This scene with the Model AA Ford truck and a 36 foot box car can date to about 1930.

Historically this two story station was built when the Y&H Railroad was blazing a path through the rocky hills toward Hillton. Because the area was so sparsely settled, being located practically under a bridge between two tunnels, the railroad built this station with living quarters of 3 rooms and a kitchen on the second floor. The building is located beside the two car spur track at the end of a passing siding with the interchange track toward the left out of this scene.

The Agent in Residence here had to wear several hats in addition to generating traffic for the railroad.  He was in charge of turnout inspection, bridge integrity, tunnel ventilation fans as well as organizing interchange traffic etc. At times he had several workmen there and they might expect supper at the end of the day.
