The most recent changes at Hillton is at the Western Industrial Salvage Enterprise. The company has acquired a scrapped Conrail caboose (PRR N5) and is using it as larger office space. Timely changes — it is not surprising that this caboose which probably was built in the 1930s has ended up in the scrap yard. Here we see that it has had its trucks removed and is setting on concrete footings at its ends. It has been equipped with electricity and a window air conditioner on the far side. The inside has been remodeled with desks, phones and an improved flush toilet. Next the scrappers want to find an old park bench to place out in front to use for a quick occasional rest.

Final details such as these may take years to develop and acquire, but that is the fun of the hobby and how it can remain challenging and rewarding for several years. Improving little bits of details like this can hold and reward ones interest for a long time. After looking at this photo I wonder if the caboose and steam engine boiler should exchange places because the caboose is too near the spur track and will impede loading operations by the crane.
