Heavy Duty Flatcar

The HO scale 16 wheel car has been available for several years, but they were prone to derailments. I did a couple things to fix that. First I cut away most of the under floor bracing to make room for a good chunk of steel weight held with Walthers Goo. And I used Athearn 6 wheel buckeye trucks with a KaDee #5 coupler box cemented together between the car bottom and the truck. That was about the right size for proper spacing for correct car coupler height. I cemented a brass 2-56 nut in the original hole for a pivot mounting for the truck and a 3/16 “ long 2-56 screw to mount the buckeye trucks. The car weighs 4 oz.
